Summary

Shark and ray species, including those in Anguilla's waters, face extinction threats. The conversion of Anguilla's marine parks into biodiversity sanctuaries offers hope for elasmobranchs, provided their habitats overlap with these protected areas. This project evaluates the parks' effectiveness as refuges by using acoustic telemetry to track shark movements. It applies IUCN's Important Shark and Ray Area criteria to identify critical habitats and develops a sub-regional action plan to guide national conservation priorities.
