Summary

FI economy is reliant on commercial fisheries, which are central to its economic success. FI seal bycatch was historically low, but recently increased by 400%. FI has not undertaken an assessment of factors leading to an increase in seal-fishery interactions, nor how the increase impacts its fisheries and marine ecosystems. This project will better understand seal-fishery interactions and produce recommendations and guidance, which will help align current long-term management objectives and actions, into action plans supporting Fisheries and Oceans Governance.
