Summary
Plankton, algae and fish larvae are useful indicators of ecosystem complexity, environmental health and water quality. The small size, fleeting life-stages and environmental sensitivity of these organisms increases their ability to respond rapidly to environmental change. Regular monitoring aids environmental management by helping to identify pollution, invasive species, Harmful Algal Blooms and climate change effects. This project seeks to build local capability and capacity by expanding existing protocols for monitoring microscopic marine organisms and linking these with public health objectives
