WHERE Anguilla
Summary
Road Salt Pond is one of Anguilla’s most iconic landscapes. A narrow sandbar separates the 106-acre Important Bird and Biodiversity Area from the Atlantic Ocean and resident and migratory birds flock to the wetland’s brackish waters for foraging, roosting, and nesting. This project adopts a multi-stakeholder approach, permanently protecting this internationally-recognised wetland while enhancing its ecosystem value by increasing Anguilla’s protected area network by 300%, creating and restoring habitat, and providing opportunities for impactful community engagement in applied biodiversity conservation.
Biodiversity monitoring efforts aimed at identifying the migration patterns of Endangered sea turtles highlight the urgent need for global conservation.
