Summary
TCI has over 500 species of native plants (eight endemic; ?40 near-endemic). ?100 of these have landscaping value, but are underutilized as commercial nurseries do not understand propagation needs. DECR has expertise, growing 118 species and writing propagation protocols in the old nursery. The old nursery was undersized, and was destroyed in 2017 hurricanes Irma and Maria. A renovated, expanded nursery and Providenciales satellite nursery will supply plants for habitat restoration and applied conservation projects, and landscape use.
