The restoration of grassland at Tristan, if successful, will benefit the whole community by increasing grassland for livestock, and slowing coastal erosion. Traditional subsistence farming provide islanders with their own food, which means grass production is important for the livestock. Unfortunately, after floods and storms many areas of grassland are now boulder strewn, resulting in lost of natural grassland. The aim is to restore grassland areas and slow coastal erosion by transferring the rocks from grassland to coastal gulches.
