Darwin Plus Local launches Round 5!
Next round of Darwin Plus Local funding launched!
We are pleased to announce that applications for Darwin Plus Local Round 5 is now open.
Darwin Plus Local funds projects that protect the unique biodiversity and improve resilience to climate change within the UK Overseas Territories (UKOTs). Darwin Plus Local supports small scale environmental projects exclusively in the UKOTs, with the aim of improving outcomes for biodiversity, building capacity in-territory and contributing to local economies.
Round 5 is welcoming applications for projects lasting a 12-month maximum duration (running 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026).
The closing date for applications is Monday 25 November 2024.
In May 2024, we hosted a webinar to provide applicants interested in applying to Round 4 Darwin Plus Local with an overview of the application process and an opportunity to ask questions about the grant scheme and application process. The training webinar from the previous round is still relevant and we encourage Round 5 applicants to watch the recording online. Please note that in the last round of funding, applications were for projects lasting up to 6 months, and this new round is for projects lasting up to 12 months.
You can find a copy of the slides and the recording of the event here.

Please note: The UK Government has committed to make £10 million available for Darwin Plus each year until March 2025. Future funding for Darwin Plus will be requested via the next Spending Review. Therefore, funding for new applications is not guaranteed, and results or start dates may also be delayed. Applicants must note and accept this risk before sending their proposals to Defra and manage any commitments associated with the proposal, accordingly.
Applications for projects in the British Indian Ocean Territory remain welcome, will be processed as normal, and successful applications honoured.
